    ABOUT GARY

Gary joins us with an extensive background in exercise physiology, endurance sport, and high-performance coaching. He is a university lecturer in physiology, holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology, and has worked for many years supporting athletes across endurance sports, including at the elite and Paralympic level. His strength lies in bridging science and practice, helping athletes understand not just what they do in training, but why they do it.

Gary has recently immigrated to Australia with his family and is currently working through his Australian coaching accreditations and will initially be joining us as an assistant coach and cover coach across the program. While you may see him supporting sessions on deck, his value extends well beyond the stopwatch. Gary brings a wealth of knowledge in areas such as training adaptation, pacing, recovery, and long-term athlete development - knowledge we’re excited to tap into as a club.

He is also an accomplished endurance swimmer himself, with significant experience in long-distance and open water swimming, giving him a genuine athlete’s perspective on the demands of the sport and has recently joined our Stingrays squad.

We’re looking forward to integrating Gary’s expertise into our coaching environment and, over time, helping our swimmers better understand their training and how they can continue to improve in the sport.
